Wild Purple White Tea “Ye Sheng Ya Bao”
📍 Jinggu Dai and Yi Autonomous County, Pu’er City (formerly Simao), Yunnan Province
🌿 Buds (Ya Bao, 芽苞) from the wild (Ye Sheng, 野生) purple (Zi Cha, 紫茶) variation of the tea tree! The processing is extremely simple: light withering and hot-air drying to halt oxidation.
📆 Harvested from mid-February to early March 2024
Infusion color is Almost transparent, with a slight greenish tint.
Aroma 🍇 Dry: Bright grape bubblegum, cotton candy.
Wet: Lingonberry kissel.
Gaiwan lid: Loads of eucalyptus!
Steamed: Juniper berry, green gooseberry jam, and an abundance of eucalyptol combined with sweetness reminiscent of marjoram.
Taste 🍉 Green grapes, watermelon juice, juniper needles, blackcurrant leaf, thyme, a hint of cardamom, and a light pinch of lemon zest. Salivation (Shengjin, 生津) is at its peak—this tea is excellent at quenching thirst.
